Fischer titrators are used for the quantitative determination of water in petroleum, petroleum products, natural gas, organic solvents, transformer oils, etc. The operation of titrators is based on the Karl Fischer reaction, which consists in the quantitative interaction of iodine and sulfur dioxide in the presence of water in a methanol-pyridine solution (Fischer's reagent) with a high rate constant.
